MTEQ Achieves AS9100 Rev C Certification

January 4, 2013

Quality Systems Registrars, Inc., (QSR) has approved MTEQ, Inc. for registration of its quality management system in accordance with AS9100 Rev. C. This certification applies to the manufacturing of printed circuit assemblies, box assemblies, and custom cables at the company headquarters in Kilmarnock, Va.

"We continually seek to improve and validate our effective quality management system and best practices. Achieving this certification demonstrates MTEQ’s commitment to providing superior products at the highest levels of quality to our customers," said MTEQ President, Mary Williams.

AS9100C is the quality management system standard offered to organizations that design, develop and produce aviation, space and defense products while demonstrating strict adherence to quality, reliability and safety standards. Published the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) AS9100C is recognized by all major Aerospace regulators including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Aerospace and Space Administration (NASA) as a means for continually improving quality and on-time delivery within their supply chain.

MTEQ is proud to announce that Mary Williams, MTEQ’s President and Chief Technology Officer, was selected as a finalist for 2012 GovCon Executive of the Year by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.

The Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards recognize businesses and executives in the region’s government contracting sector with the best innovation, leadership, and excellence. The Executive of the Year award specifically recognizes government contracting executives in the Washington area for their outstanding contributions to their company, community, and industry.

Presented by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Professional Services Council (PSC) and Washington Technology, the 10th Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards winners were announced November 2 at an evening gala, which has been dubbed the "Academy Awards of Government Contracting."

Virginia Business, a print and online magazine serving Virginia’s business decision makers since 1986, recently recognized MTEQ in the June edition for our prime contract award under the Warrior Enabling Broad Sensor Services (WEBS) contract vehicle. In March, MTEQ was selected to provide services for the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center's (CERDEC's) Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD).

MTEQ's President, Mary Williams, is quoted several times speaking about MTEQ's success strategy that is based on investment in infrastructure, training, and growing manufacturing initiatives in the Northern Neck of Virginia.

MTEQ Sponsors Semper Fi Fund Golf Tournament

May 18, 2012

MTEQ was honored to participate as a Red Sponsor for the 5th Annual Claude D. Alexander Memorial Golf Tournament, held at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, MD. This event honors the memory of Claude D. Alexander, a Vietnam veteran, amputee, and peer visitor to wounded Warriors and Marines at Walter Reed and Bethesda Medical Centers.

Alexander provided counsel and guidance to hundreds of injured Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines during their recuperation. He coordinated multiplesporting and weekend outings to promote rest and relaxation outside of their extensive physical therapy regimens.

All proceeds from this tournament benefit the Semper Fi Fund, a non-profit organization that provides immediate financial support to injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

The event raised $20,000 for the Semper Fi Fund. MTEQ's Director of Navy Programs, Ted Hardwood (pictured far right), presented the check to the Semper Fi Fund at the conclusion of the tournament. MTEQ Awarded Prime for Warrior Enabling Broad Sensor Services (WEBS)

March 13, 2012

On March 13, 2012, MTEQ, Inc. was awarded a Prime contract under the Warrior Enabling Broad Sensor Services (WEBS) contract vehicle. WEBS is a small business set-aside and multiple-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with a maximum potential value of $1.7 billion.

This WEBS acquisition will provide services for night vision and electronic sensors systems to the US Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center's (CERDEC's) Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD), as well as customers developing intelligence and information warfare systems and working within the intelligence community. Support services include sensor technology engineering, administrative and operations support, such as field technology assistance, test and evaluation, and engineering support and services for night vision and electronic sensors systems.

The WEBS award is MTEQ’s second prime contract with NVESD; currently, MTEQ is Prime on the Quick Reaction Engineering for Warfighter Sensing (QREWS) vehicle. QREWS is also a small business set-aside, multiple-award, IDIQ contract with a $245 million dollar ceiling. The Quick Reaction Engineering for Warfighter Sensing (QREWS) contract supports research, development, experiments, engineering, prototyping, and field support to develop quick reaction war support services and material directly related to NVESD efforts at FT Belvoir and FT AP Hill, VA performing Quick Reaction Programs (QRPs), Overseas Contingency Operations (OCOs), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) requirements.

MTEQ Purchases A & A Precision Machining Co., LLC

Decemeber, 20, 2011

MTEQ has completed the asset acquisition of A & A Precision Machining Co., LLC. A & A is an ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100 certified manufacturer of precision machined components for aerospace and defense applications. The company routinely works with machining tolerances as close as +/-0.0001" and +/-0.0002".

A & A was founded in 1959 by principals Arthur and Susan Albertsen. The Albertsens have agreed to stay on with MTEQ to ensure the successful transition of the business's existing operations and relationships. The closing took place on Dec. 20, 2011, coincidentally, the six-year anniversary of the acquisition of MTEQ by the current management team. Operations will continue to be run from A & A's production facility in Montross, Virginia, located about halfway between MTEQ's Technical Services Division in Stafford, Virginia and its Rapid Prototyping & Production Division and corporate headquarters in Kilmarnock, Virginia.

MTEQ's strategy is to become a diversified supplier of technical and manufacturing products and services for commercial and defense customers. The addition of A & A will better position the company to serve customers in the aerospace and sensor technology industries.

MTEQ Participates in Panel for Army C4ISR Small Business Conference

December 8, 2011

On December 8, 2011, MTEQ’s President, Mary Williams, participated as one of three industry panelists in a small business strategy discussion at the annual Advance Planning Briefing for Industry (APBI)/Small Business (SB) Conference. This event was sponsored by the Army Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Center of Excellence and was held at the Mallette Mission Training Facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The APBI provides industry with a comprehensive overview of Army C4ISR Center of Excellence requirements and corresponding contract opportunities on the horizon. The APBI informs the commercial marketplace of potential opportunities for business with the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) and its C4ISR partners at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The program consists of a series of presentations by government representatives and provides a communications forum for key CECOM decision makers and industry small business leaders to facilitate future work for small businesses. The common goal is to ensure CECOM maintains a viable small business program.

Ms. Williams was invited to be a panelist by Ms. Valerie Oliver, Small Business Advocate for CECOM’s Small Business office. Ms. Oliver asked the panelists about the challenges small businesses face and the corporate strategies for success.

MTEQ Awarded SBIR Phase I from the US Army for Our "Optically Fused Imaging Model" Proposal

MTEQ was awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I from the US Army for our proposal titled "Optically Fused Imaging Model." The SBIR program provides funding for small businesses to develop technologies with commercial applications that satisfy a Department of Defense (DoD) need. With the award of a Phase I SBIR, MTEQ is automatically eligible for a Phase III contract award pertaining to resulting related or emerging technologies.

MTEQ Opens New Technical Services Office in Stafford, Virginia

MTEQ has moved into a new Technical Services office in Stafford, Virginia. MTEQ's new office is a 4,600 square foot facility with multiple conference rooms, teleconferencing facilities, and storage capability. The new location is highlighted by a number of features:

  • Large and Open Integration Room
  • Dark Room
  • The Commonwealth Room, a large conference room
  • The Observation Room, a small conference room

The MTEQ facility will also feature an Optics Laboratory with the following characteristics:

  • MTF & 1st Order Properties Measurement Station
  • Darkroom Measurement Station
  • HEPA-Filtered Opto-Mechanical Assembly and Cleaning Stations

MTEQ Welcomes New Employees

MTEQ has experienced tremendous and exciting growth so far in 2011. We are pleased to welcome the following new staff:

Technical Staff

John Hall - VP Sensor Technology - Mr. Hall joins MTEQ with over 20 years experience with NVESD as an optics subject matter expert with extensive experience obtaining and managing Department of Defense contracts. Mr. Hall has received numerous professional awards including; NVESD's "Director's Award" and AMC & CECOM's "Top 10 Employees of the Year," Superior Civil Service Medal. Mr. Hall has been featured in various technical publications and currently holds 20 patents in lens and optical system design.

Anthony Perillo - Director of Intelligence Programs - Mr. Perillo has over 30 years of experience as an intelligence and technical staff officer with DIA, NSA, NGA, and CIA, and over 10 years professional experience as a corporate business executive in the private sector. Mr. Perillo works in concert with other company executives to set the direction of corporate business ventures, allocate resources and assets, and determined best practices and most beneficial return on investment for company and customer.

Roshni Sherbondy - Director of Homeland Security Programs - Ms. Sherbondy joins MTEQ with a wealth of experience gained from her employment at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as the NVESD Countermine Division. She will provide MTEQ with lead programmatic support on a variety of contracts.

Drew Mrenna - Project Lead - Mr. Mrenna is a Project Lead with MTEQ and possesses extensive experience in Hardware Engineering for complex devices supporting DoD contracts.

John Ehrhart - Electro-Optical Engineer - Mr. Ehrhart brings extensive optical/mechanical/opto-mechanical design and development experience to the MTEQ team. Mr. Ehrhart also provides experience with large-scale integration, system performance testing, 3D modeling, and EOIR system integration to MTEQ's DoD contracts.

Jorge Ortiz - Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mr. Ortiz joins MTEQ as a Senior Mechanical Engineer with project administration experience in electro-mechanical systems integration and combat vehicle mechanical/electrical system design. Mr. Ortiz's experience is highlighted with 3D modeling, design, and manufacturing processes capability.

Jonathan Robbins - Mechanical Engineer - Mr. Robbins joins MTEQ with experience in thermal management, finite element and Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, and hardware ruggedization for support of MTEQ's DoD contracts.

John Burton - Senior Engineer - Dr. Burton comes to MTEQ with over 20 years experience in the atmospheric remote sensing field, having worked with NASA on several missions studying the Earth's atmosphere from space. Dr. Burton been heavily involved in multiple aspects of these missions including instrument design and development, flight code development, science data systems design, implementation and management, and science data processing and dissemination.

MTEQ Participates in NVESD Fall 2010 Golf Tournament

MTEQ participated in the Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) Fall 2010 Golf Tournament, held at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Chantilly, VA. MTEQ managed to not only come in 1st place for the Flight B division, but also captured the coveted Last Place award. Whether driving for show, putting for dough, or wondering where our ball went, MTEQ had a great time and will be sure to play in many NVESD tournaments to come!

MTEQ Participates in the Fall 2010 Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament

MTEQ participated in the Fall 2010 Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament, held at Tartan Golf Club in Weems, VA. The tournament raised almost $12,500 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, the SEAL---Naval Special Warfare Foundation, and Salute Military Golf!

It was a great day for MTEQ's golf game and our performance landed us the 3rd place prize! Way to go team!

MTEQ was a proud sponsor of the Chesapeake Bay Sox Baseball Team this summer. Our sponsorship helped the talented Chesapeake Bay Sox team pursue the first Cal Ripken invitational 17U wood bat tournament at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen Md. The 21 teammates from the Northern Neck & Middle played fantastically at the four day event! Special moments were shared with the Bay Sox team and their families when Cal Ripken was sighted at work with his youth baseball clinics. Several pictures were taken with Cal and our youngest Bay Sox family prospects! Congratulations, Bay Sox!

On June 9, 2010 MTEQ's Electronics Fabrication Facility in Kilmarnock, VA was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 Certification. MTEQ's contract manufacturing capabilities include Through-Hole (TH) and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) utilized in manufacturing Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBs). In addition, MTEQ assembles Box Build products and Custom Cables.

MTEQ Welcomes New Employees

In the past couple of months, MTEQ has proudly welcomed the following new employees on-board:

Chris Munsey - Chris Munsey started at MTEQ in early May and has recently joined the private sector, having completed his active assignment with the US Army. Chris is a West Point Academy graduate and during his time in the Army, he served as a Military Intelligence officer with recent deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Chris provides on-site Program Management support to a Government customer.

Sean Harrigan - Sean Harrigan has been a Summer intern with MTEQ for the past 3 years. After graduating from Virginia Tech in May 2010 with a degree in Mathematics & Computer Science, he came on board with MTEQ as a full-time employee. Sean provides computer software and algorithm development support to MTEQ as well as Government engineers and scientists.

Horacio Gonzales - Horacio Gonzales joined MTEQ in March 2010. Horacio is a former Warrant Officer and UH-60 Blackhawk pilot. Horacio provides Project Management support to a technical Government aviation program.

Emily Payne - Emily Payne joined MTEQ in March 2010. Emily has provided LAN & IT support to an existing MTEQ Government customer for 2 years. Emily continues her IT support role as a Network Technician for MTEQ.

MTEQ Hosts Rappahannock Community College Citizens Advisory Committee

MTEQ, Inc. of Kilmarnock, Virginia hosted a Rappahannock Community College (RCC) Citizens Advisory Committee on February 25, 2010.

There were over 20 participants at the event consisting of RCC Deans, RCC professors, technical discipline teachers from most of the area high schools, like Gloucester, West Point, King William, Middlesex, etc., as well as some local representatives of industry leaders in the area.

The session included a presentation by Professor Mahmood (M.K.) Kalantar, General Engineering Technology Program Head at RCC. The program began with an MTEQ corporate overview by Mr. Greg Demeo, General Manager of MTEQ, Kilmarnock facility. Details on MTEQ's business focus and growth were highlighted, as well as its positive involvement with the RCC CO-OP program in the past.

Several other presentations were made by Professor Kalantar about the current state and growth of the CO-OP program and some new initiatives that are being taken by RCC at different campuses.

After the presentations and questions & answer session, Mr. Demeo provided a detailed tour to the participants of MTEQ plant operations and technology.

MTEQ has already established Co-Ops with RCC. In 2009, RCC students worked full-time over the summer and one stayed on full-time and is still with MTEQ. The other student will continue the internship this summer and two new Co-Ops will begin in Spring 2010.

MTEQ recently acquired its Systems Integration Facility, which is adjacent to our Electronic Fabrication Facility. MTEQ now resides on a 5 acre campus and has a 12,000 sq. ft. Electronic Fabrication Facility & a 6,000 sq. ft. Systems Integration Facility complete with the following:

  • 2 High Bay Doors
  • Wide Open Integration Facility
  • Large vehicle integration capability
  • Open Floor Plan for Reconfigurable Integration Capabilities

New Satellite Office in Stafford, VA

MTEQ now has a satellite office located in Stafford, Virginia. The office is a 6,600 square foot facility with secured conference rooms, teleconferencing facilities, and storage capability. The office has the following features:

MTEQ Awarded GSA PES Contract, Contract No. GS-10F-0079W

On December 22, 2009, MTEQ was awarded the first five-year option period of the GSA Federal Supply Schedule contract for Professional Engineering Services (PES), Contract No. GS-10F-0079W. The current five-year contract period is valid through December 21, 2014. This is an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract vehicle.
